Cost per square foot formula
Divide the total project amount by the area in square feet. For example, a hypothetical $1,800 budget across 200 sq ft equals $9 per sq ft. This arithmetic does not indicate whether the budget is reasonable or what a contractor should charge.
For useful comparisons, make sure each budget covers the same scope. Concrete quantity, delivery, site preparation, finishing, reinforcement, permits, demolition, and access can differ substantially between estimates.
Use comparable project scopes
Ask whether quotes include materials, labor, excavation, base preparation, formwork, reinforcement, finishing, cleanup, and taxes. Enter a total that matches the area being compared and verify local rates directly with suppliers or contractors.
